Co-production of ecosystem services through agricultural practices: perception of stakeholders supporting smallholders in the Brazilian Amazon

This paper investigates the perceptions of a diversity stakeholders supporting smallholders in eastern Brazilian Amazon about ecosystem services and agricultural practices. Our results come from 30 semi-structured interviews with key two contrasting municipalities this region (Paragominas Irituia). We identified 17 different 15 Using multidimensional scaling (MDS), we differentiated stakeholders’ co-production services. The most mentioned are food supply, regulation water cycles, soil fertility erosion prevention. Overall, there is positive perception that practices providing Biodiversity-based associated provision broad range whereas mechanical-chemical mainly linked to supply. Use fire, deforestation use chemical pesticides perceived as having negative effects on type activity performed by their municipality main factors influencing co-production. In conclusion, concept related agroecosystems relevant local actors recognize service provision.
